Webinar - Safeguarding Refresher Training for Counsellors, Therapists and All Psychological Practitioners

£0.00

3.5 hour webinar:

Safeguarding Refresher Training for Counsellors, Therapists and all Psychological Practitioners

Regular safeguarding refreshers are essential for anyone working in therapeutic and psychological practice — yet many generic courses don’t fully address how legislation, risk, and best practice apply within our specific roles and therapeutic work.

This training is designed to close those gaps. It is open to counsellors, psychotherapists, therapeutic practitioners, mental health workers and all applied psychologists, whether you work in statutory services, voluntary/community settings, education, the third sector, or independent practice. Rather than a level-based course, this is a space to revisit core safeguarding principles, understand current legislation (including recent changes), and explore lessons from inquiries and reviews — all with a strong focus on real-world application in therapeutic and psychological work.

We’ll also be joined by a former Child Protection Police Officer — now a police trainer for detectives working on violent and serious crime, including recent and non-recent sexual offences — who will offer a clear and practical insight into safeguarding processes from a policing perspective. Bring your questions and reflections.

Topics include:

  • Balancing confidentiality, therapeutic alliance and safeguarding responsibilities

  • Legal duties around sharing risk information, including new mandatory reporting requirements

  • Embedding trauma-informed safeguarding practice

  • Managing safeguarding-related risk when working independently or in private practice

  • What actually happens when you make a referral — demystifying the process

NEW DATES COMING FOR 2026.  If you’d like an update when we release new dates please let us know via the contact page.

Additional Information

This refresher is aimed at practitioners with previous safeguarding training and experience but trainees are also welcome.

We purposefully cover both child and adult safeguarding in these trainings. My view is that we can encounter issues relating to both in our practice regardless of specialism, and we should be ready to take appropriate action.

Delegates come from a range of services and contexts, including those working in statutory services as well as many from independent practice.

Delegates will receive a slide deck packed with helpful links and resources.

The training delivered in this webinar is focused on the UK and in particular English statute.

We have recently developed an interactive workshop as a follow on from this training to enable delegates to apply their knowledge to complex real life scenarios in discussion with peers. We are dedicated to multidisciplinary working and will be joined in the workshops by expert social work colleagues; together we will take all your questions. Click here for more information on this interactive workshop.
